Jay G Ying is a Chinese-Scottish writer, translator, critic, and MFA student at Brown University. He is a Contributing Editor at The White Review and Assistant Poetry Editor at Asymptote. He is working on a debut novel as well as a collection of poetry.
His publications include Granta, The Guardian, The Poetry Review, 3:AM Magazine, Modern Poetry in Translation, The White Review. His pamphlet Wedding Beasts (2019) was shortlisted for the Saltire-Calum MacDonald Award, and his second pamphlet Katabasis (2020) is a winner of a New Poets Prize.
His research interests include: world and comparative literature; translation; experimental and avant-garde writers of colour; Chinese literature; literature from the East and Southeast Asian diaspora; global modernisms; postcoloniality. He is a co-founder of the Scottish BAME Writers Network. Currently he is based in Providence, Rhode Island, and Edinburgh, Scotland.
